Maria Luisa (Lu) T. Acosta

Vice President

Lu Acosta brings her more than 30 years of experience in adult learning and organizational development consulting to assist her clients in designing and delivering world-class training and organizational improvement projects.

Ms. Acosta is an accomplished project manager, facilitator, curriculum design specialist and trainer. She has provided efficient and effective training design, development, and delivery, as well as training administration, performance evaluation, and logistical support services for all programs and services delivered under her guidance and supervision. Her performance improvement products include participant manuals, trainer guides, self-study guides, visual aids, job aids, and computer presentations.

Ms. Acosta has designed, developed, and delivered training on a wide range of topics – soft skill areas, such as leadership, management and supervision, team building, communication, conflict management, negotiations, interviewing, project management, customer service, stress management, time management, facilitation, presentation skills, writing, working in teams, focus groups, and marketing; and technical skill areas such as EEO, sexual harassment, performance appraisals, labor management relations, employee relations, safety and health, process mapping, roles and responsibilities of veterans’ employment representatives, and Veterans’ Reemployment Rights.

Key Successes

  • Has managed the department-wide training program to provide management, professional, and personal skills training for all agencies of the U.S. Department of Labor
  • Supervised a project to provide training and consulting services to transition 65 field offices of an award-winning government agency into team-based organizations
  • Developed a self-study guide on the performance management and appraisal process for a Federal agency
  • Trained all managers and employees of an international health organization on how to prevent and resolve harassment in the workplace
  • Developed guidelines, protocol, and training materials for establishing Industry Councils for Job Corps Centers
  • Has designed and led planning meetings, retreats, stakeholder meetings and work group sessions for staff at all levels – from front-line staff to senior executives

Education

Ms. Acosta earned her B.A. in Speech and Drama, with a concentration in radio and television, and a law degree from the University of the Philippines. She also earned her M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado at Denver.

Background

Prior to joining TATC Consulting, Ms. Acosta served on the faculty of the Institute of Mass Communication of the University of the Philippines and as a course designer and instructor at the National Veterans Training Institute located in Denver, Colorado.
