Michael Barber, MSOD
Director, Organizational Development & Training
Mr. Barber is the Director of Organization Development and Training at TATC with over 20 years of combined professional experience in organization development, training, and leadership development. He has extensive skills in data gathering, analysis, needs assessment, executive coaching, and instructional system design (ISD). He has conducted numerous train the trainer programs to increase trainers’ skills in facilitation, adult learning techniques, and presentation techniques.
Mr. Barber has worked extensively with upper level leadership in the federal government, non-profits, and private organizations on strategic planning, change management, team building, and professional development initiatives. Mr. Barber’s strategic planning experience includes working with leadership teams to align around key stakeholders, define primary and secondary customers, develop or revise vision and mission statements, conduct internal audits of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT analysis), and develop action plans for implementation efforts.
Mr. Barber is co-author of a case study which appeared in Donald Kirkpatrick’s 2005 book, Transferring Learning to Behaviors: Using the Four Levels to Attack One of Training’s Biggest Challenges. The study linked classroom learning to tangible business results. He also has an extensive background in all aspects of training design and delivery, performance improvement methods, and training evaluation to determine the return on investment. Mr. Barber developed two corporate universities at Net2000 Communications and Razorsight Corporation.
Mr. Barber also works as an advocate for “going green.” Going green means to pursue knowledge and practices that can lead to more environmentally friendly and ecologically responsible decisions and lifestyles, which can help protect the environment and sustain its natural resources for current and future generations. Mr. Barber has worked with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to train new instructors for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Faculty Training Program, assist with strategic planning efforts, and design public LEED workshops.
Mr. Barber earned his Masters of Science in Organization Development (MSOD) from American University, and his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (BSIE) from West Virginia University. Mr. Barber is a certified Situational Leadership II Instructor and also holds certifications in the FIRO Element-B Behavioral Assessment®, Apter Motivational Style Profile (AMSP)©, and is a certified executive coach through the Center for Creative Leadership.
