TATC Consulting’s Comprehensive Language Center, Inc. (CLCI) provides high-quality translation, interpretation, foreign language and ESL training, desktop publishing, transcription and website and software localization in over 100 foreign languages. 

Our core Language Service capabilities include:

Translation

CLCI tailors its materials and techniques to meet your learning objectives as a individual or group.  If there is a specific terminology you need to know, we integrate it.  If you only have a limited amount of time to study, we can take that into consideration as well.  Throughout the course, our instructors will monitor and measure your progress to ensure you get the most from your learning time.

Our instructors will evaluate each student on his or her performance at the end of each course and make a recommendation as to whether the student has reached the set goals of the course in order to move on to the next level.

Desktop Publishing

We provide desktop publishing services for brochures, advertisements, manuals, surveys, forms, business cards, annual reports, prospectuses, guides and reports of all varieties.  We not only provide expert layout capability but we also review your choice of colors, artwork and general design to make sure it is culturally suitable for your target audience.

Narration

Whether you are marketing and selling to prospects overseas, training employees around the world, or informing customers about new product developments, it is best to address your audience in their native language. We can enhance your message with these narration services:

  • Script review and translation
  • Text and footage review and editing for cultural appropriateness
  • Professional narration, including a target-language specialist to monitor quality

Transcription

Interviews. Conversations. Depositions. Seminars. No matter what language or subject area, if you have a recording, we can transcribe it into a precise written record.

Send us your audio cassette, CD, microcassette (1.2 or 2.4 mm), or VHS video tape. We use the latest in tape transcription equipment to make sure each word and expression is captured as accurately as possible. We assign transcribers and translators who are proficient in the dialects and terminologies you require.

Document Exploitation

Law enforcement, Homeland Security and other similar agencies often encounter large volumes of material in foreign languages.  The information in the documents is often time sensitive.  To be useful the content of the documents must be known quickly, but due to budget and time constraints, a traditional translation approach is not practical.  In these situations, we will scan the documents and create text versions by using optical character recognition (OCR) technology.  The output from the OCR process is used as input to machine translation software, which produces English text.  The English text is then loaded into databases where search engines are used to identify assets, individuals, dates and other information that may assist our clients in their investigations.  As pertinent documents are identified, they are reviewed by individuals who will confirm the relevancy and then forward the document for complete translation following traditional translation guidelines.  This process allows clients to sift through large volumes of material in short timeframes without wasting time and budget dollars.

Glossary Compilation

Translation involves delving into the rich vocabulary of another language to create a document that accurately reflects the original.  Yet there is often more than one term to accurately translate a source word, and many industries or companies have specific jargon. We work with clients who have large or on-going translation needs to compile glossaries of frequently-used and other important terms.  We can compile a glossary based on previous translations, a review of material to be translated from scratch, or a combination of these and other methods.  Glossaries are always reviewed and approved by the client before being considered final. The glossary is an invaluable tool for translators and editors, as well as for client reviewers and management personnel.

Localization 

In a localization or globalization project, a product such as a software package or brochure is rendered culturally appropriate for the country, region or audience our client specifies.  Translation is only one part of the process, and may involve software strings, ad copy, manuals, training exercises, etc. We also review artwork, colors, photographs, display characteristics, font types and sizes to ensure the entire product looks as if it was originally designed in the area for which it is intended.

Machine Translation

This term refers to the utilization of software to translate text from one language to another.  Its application is very limited. For professional text, we believe (MT) is only useful for Document Exploitation purposes. There are two aspects to the translation project utilizing professional translators, the science and the art. Generally, the technical task is completed first:  creating a target language document with words, phrases, and concepts that accurately reflect the words, phrases and concepts in the original. The artistic feature of translation is more time consuming than the technical aspect.  Just as any good writer will revise his or her English text several times, translators and editors often need to "walk away" from a document and revisit the text again, to ensure the language is natural and reads well on its own. As good as machine translation software is, it is still very far from perfect and cannot reliably create even a good technical translation much less replicate the art of translation.
